File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a network protocol used to transfer data between different clients and/or servers on a computer network.
Using FTP Downloads App helps to download files/folders from a FTP server to a My Cloud device.


Supported Features

  • Anonymous login
  • Account login
  • Schedule Downloads
  • Forward and Reverse DNS of FTP Server domain name

Limitations

  • FTP Downloads App not supported on My Cloud (Single Bay)
  • SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) is not supported
  • TLS/SSL Implicit or Explicit Login is not supported


How to Configure FTP Downloads App

Follow the steps below to configure the FTP Downloads App.

  1. Log into the Dashboard. For instruction, refer to Answer ID 10420: How to Access the Dashboard on a My Cloud Device

  2. Click the Apps tab
  3. Image


  4. Click on the FTP Downloads option on the left-side panel of the Apps page
  5. Image


  6. Click on Create Job

  7. Choose a Job Name and fill it up
  8. Add the IP address of the Host device (Host device is the same device that you want to use FTP downloads Apps to download file from)

  9. Login Method:

    • With Account Credentials: 
      If the FTP Server has been setup with Username and Password, choose Account option and enter the Username and Password 
      IMPORTANTImportant:

      FTP Server configued with TLS/SSL Implicit or Explicit Login is not supported


    • Without Account Credentials: 
      If the FTP server is setup as an anonymous access and it doesn't have credential, choose Anonymous option

  10. Select Source Folder (The folder which FTP Downloads should download the files from)

  12. Select Destination Folder (The folder which FTP Downloads should download the files to)
  13. Image


  14. Recurrence: Click ON and schedule the best time to start the download job. 
    You may select Daily, Weekly, and Monthly backup based on your requirements.

  16. Click on Create, it will add the FTP Download Job.

  17. If FTP Download Job Failed, recheck and verify
    • Host IP address
    • Credentials of the FTP Account

    IMPORTANTImportant: If the FTP Server is remote (FTP Server and My Cloud device are not in a same computer network), you may need to open port "21" on the Router on the FTP Server network.
